Lazarus Awakening by Joanna Weaver

Image
I was not sure what to expect when I selected this book, but I was intrigued to go a bit deeper with the story Lazarus. I was pleasantly greeted by what felt like a genuine depth of care for God in the beginning of the book. Any one can expound on a topic, but few seem to do it out of an abiding love.  I was challenged and strengthened as I read about the strategy of Christ to reveal Himself through this man's death and resurrection. It gave me a clear picture of how we are to unbind the grave clothes of those around us whom Christ is calling. What depth and meaning to discipleship. We are unwrapping the cloths of death.  It was beautiful to see the doctrine of grace interwoven in this passage. You can see Martha bring works to the table. Mary brings worship. Lazarus had nothing to offer. He was dead. The only thing he had going for him was that Jesus loved him. Much like us. We have nothing to bring to the table. We must rely wholly on the all sufficient power of God's grac...

Mr. Hamburger in Huntsville, Texas

Image
We recently went into Mr Hamburger in Hunstville, Texas. I don't go out of my way to compliment a hamburger place, but the burger I had here was amazing. I had the Texican. It has avocado and a spicy sauce that will make you shout for joy. I have actually had three of them. The Professor is also delicious from what I hear from my table mates. The malts and fries and great too. I highly recommend it for a travel stop. Now, I could never eat a Killer burger or Old Sparky. It just seems too much to think about while eating. Huntsville is home to death row in case you were unaware...hence the names. It is easy to see what the names of the burgers have to do with the town, but what about the King Kong? What does that have to do with Huntsville? No matter, try it out. It is amazing. http://www.mr-hamburger.com/

Gomer: The Little Things

Image
As I am writing this to you, I am making some homemade chicken and dumplings (with a twist) for the band and some of the staff. As it simmers, I thought I would write to you. We try to keep things with a bit of normalcy while we are here. I cook. We still do homeschool. We try to play games and have lots of quiet family time. It can be really overstimulating for a bunch of introverts to be dropped into hundreds of screaming kids. Sometimes I just have to laugh. I get so overstimulated by the noise at lunch that I rarely taste my food. One thing we try to do is to do nature study every day. We made a Pine cone peanut butter/nut bird feeder. We also write and do chalk. Our friend Ben gave Laomai the cool chalk pencil at the bottom. It is fun to get to see so many friends every day.  On the flip side of being at camp, there is more spiritual warfare than you could imagine. Over sever hundred campers have come to Christ this summer. There is warfare on every side. It is against the ki...

Memorizing God's Word.

Image
I learned the art of deeply meditating on God's Word a few years ago. It is different from memorizing scripture, but you must memorize the scripture to meditate. Repeating a verse to myself many times a day really helps us take up what the words are trying to tell me. It comes alive. I am constantly amazed at how I can read and know a verse, but when I meditate on it, I take ownership of it. Think of how many times we have read Psalm 23. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." We know it. We read it. What happens if we read it 10 times a day? What if you set a timer for every two hours you are awake and you said that verse to yourself aloud? Read it slowly, deliberately. Look at each word and ask God to open your eyes to it.  The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want ." The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." The Lord is my Shepherd , I shall  not want." My four year old has been memorizing God's word for years. I print out Bible Verse...

Talk to me, Abba

Image
You have been given a gift of health. I have been drawing you toward my healing all of your life and Christ is steadily mending your heart. You have been given a birthright of nobility. Other people should see this in you. Those around you should be experiencing healing and the elegance of nobility by being in your presence. Are you carrying yourself like one forgiven? Are you out unwinding graveclothes? Are you granting pardon or harboring bitterness? Do you walk in faith? Do you extend grace? "Love is kind." 1 Corinthians 13 For more on this segment, see this post .

Seeing the Unseen by T.W. Hunt

Image
T.W. Hunt was a masterful co-laborer with Henry Blackaby in Experiencing God. He wrote my favorite Bible study, The Mind of Christ. He does not fail to be brilliant here either. I am amazed at how his wildly intellectual mind is brought into humble submission to God's Spirit and deep things are explained in a clear and simple way. I understood some scriptures as if for the first time.  So many Christians have a difficult time experiencing Christ in the day to day routine of life. T.W. shows us that God is present with us all of the time and that we can easily communicate with him. When we open our eyes and ears to God's presence, it will dramatically change our lives. I have personally gained much insight from reading this book. I took pages of notes. It is a great resource for those looking to understand how we are to live our daily lives. I highly recommend all of the works of T.W. Hunt. Buy Seeing the Unseen . This book was graciously provided by NavPress for review. H...
