Capitol of Texas Zoo

Beautiful Stephanie is very tired tonight and not feeling all that well, so as her protective husband, I'm standing in the gap for her.

Today, we were running some errands around South Austin, so we decided to schedule a trip to the zoo as well.  There are actually 2 zoos in Austin, which is kind of surprising.  We've been to the zoo in west Austin before.....quite a let down.  I got challenged and nearly attacked by a baboon, and we went on a lame train ride....that's about all I remember from that visit.  There is another zoo on the east side of Austin, kind of close to Bastrop, and that's where we went today.

As we drove out to the zoo, which was in the absolute middle of nowhere, the first thing we noticed was the mile long entrance of gravel.  No, not even gravel....big, heavy rocks.  This wouldn't have been such a concern, but earlier in the day we had a flat tire and were worried about it going flat again.

The zoo itself was decent enough and pretty diverse......snakes, turtles, a croc, all kinds of deer, antelope and goats.  Plenty of birds, peacocks, bats, a few monkeys, even a lion and a tiger.  It really wasn't all that bad for a zoo in the middle of nowhere.  It just kind of seemed like.....not a zoo.  More like a some guy's acreage that he decided to build some shabby fences and cages to hold his pets in.  I kept looking at some of the structures and praying that they would hold up....at least until we were back in the car.  

I also had to witness the owner yelling at one of the girls who worked there.  She had taken her boyfriend in the lion's den (how's THAT for a metaphor), and the owner was really upset....something about liability, a $3000 fine and her possibly getting fired.  Anyways, kind of an awkward thing when I'm standing there with my girls.

Overall, it wasn't that bad, but if you can make it San Antonio or even Waco, you'll get a much better zoo experience.  However, if people keep going into the lion's den, you just KNOW that something YouTube worthy is bound to happen.  :)

Alright, baby photo below. Quit emailing me! ;-) I remember having a writer's callous when I was five years old. In my adolescence I hated it. Now, I find it fascinating. Almost as long as I have been alive I have borne a mark that declares I am passionate about something in such a way that it bores into my skin. I have been blessed with wonderful Apple products to use and I still prefer writing things out. I heard Michelle Pfeiffer say David Kelley writes out all of his award winning shows on yellow legal pad. I like that. I prefer a journal and a real wood pencil (the kind that are stained, not the yellow ones.) There's something romantic about it to me. Writing is a choice medium in my relationship with God . David Crowder's House Restoration

A recent edition of Waco Today featured David Crowder's six year renovation project(we had to go check it out). I said a quiet prayer that God would let our house be completed before six years was up for us and then I dove in to the details. David and his wife bought the home of the man who invented Dr. Pepper. It is encouraging to see something that took so much effort and energy come to completion. May we soon see the same thing. Gomer: The Inspiration Board

I saw this thing on HGTV once. People would look at these mega-money "inspiration rooms" and try to copy them on a thin budget. I decided I would copy this idea and begin to put inspiration points around the house. My first point is an inspiration board on the front of our house. Much of the paint on the front of the house has been scraped off. So I took it upon myself to sand a whole board down and prime it. She is a beauty. Now, people will be inspired from miles around and flock here due to the inspiration of this one bright white board. At the very least, it has inspired me to want to paint another one.  We had a lovely time of worship here on Sunday at our first night of House Church. The Holy Spirit was so tender with us as He led our hearts to repentance and praise. I am thankful for those the Lord brought here that night to sit in a simple place in a simple way to worship Jesus.
